Music / Peace Proms 2016

News > 2015-2016 News and Events

Scoil Naomh Bhríde has long held a tradition of music. This can be seen in the day to day work of the teachers in our school choir.

The choir is divided between a junior choir (Junior Infants up to Second class) and a senior choir (third class to sixth class.) The choirs meet once a week to learn a variety of songs, and they are involved in school celebrations, masses and concerts.

Peace Proms Concert
Over the past couple of years our school has been involved in the Peace Proms. This is a peace initiative between Northern and Southern Ireland involving the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and choirs from schools all over the country.

This project aims to bring young people from the North and South of Ireland together through music. The orchestra and choirs come from all corners of Ireland and perform in shows each year to promote peace, unity and tolerance.

Each school involved learns a selection of songs which are performed in one concert with the orchestra and other schools in early spring, and the initiative has gone from strength to strength each year.

Participating in the Peace Proms gives children a chance to develop their own confidence, vocal quality and exposes them to a variety of music styles. It also gives them the opportunity to perform with a full orchestra – an experience not many people get.

In our school, students from 3rd to 6th class are encouraged to participate in the Peace Proms. Each child is given copies of the song lyrics and we learn the songs during choir sessions each week leading up to the concert.

This year Peace Proms will take place on Sunday 6th March at 8pm in The Hub, Kilkenny. Tickets are on sale at present and are priced at €15 per person or €50 for a Family of four and can be purchased directly from the CBOI website lt  or by clicking on the following link

There will be a workshop preceding the concert on the 10/02/16  so it’s important to get learning the songs so that we can move freely and have fun on the day. This dance link might come in useful for practising the songs at home:
